Finch praises a hero who lies with monarchs and was worthy to wear or support a crown; Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, Vicomte Turenne (1611-75). Turenne was a famous French Captain under whom James II served as a lieutenant in France in 1650's, and whom James respected and loved. The period of the lieutenantship was in some ways the happiest period of James II's life.
