During what years were you an active day trader?
Started in 1997 with an online discount brokerage.
How developed were your computer skills before you day traded? What software did you use to trade? Did day trading affect your use of computers for things other than personal finance?
Computer skills before and after daytrading are about the same. I've used datek, ameritrade, and e-trade for placing my online trades.
What was your employment status before, and during the time you day traded?
I daytraded throughout college and since graduating have taken employment with a proprietary trading firm.
Did you day trade at work, at home, or in a trading office? How many hours a day did you trade?
I traded from my dorm room during normal market hours minus time going to/from/studying for my classes. Spent time before markket opening and after for research and trading strategies.
Where did you access information for your day trading? Online or offline? From chat groups, message boards, websites, or other sources?
Accessed information mainly from sources provided from online brokerage account. Constantly followed CNBC, motley fools, and message boards.
What has been the result of your day trading? Were you financially successful? How has trading affected your professional and personal life? What are your thoughts about your experience?
Most successful year was 99 and 2000 which provided income for college expenses as well as travel. Since 2000 my trades were limited by school work increasing up untill 2002. I am now a full time proprietary trader working towards financial freedom.
