Building Faculty Community Through a Canvas-Based Book Club

Abstract

This session highlights an innovative faculty development initiative that used a Canvas site to create, organize, and sustain a professional book club. The project was designed to foster community, support reflective practice, and promote dialogue around teaching and learning. By leveraging Canvas as the central hub, we streamlined communication, resources, scheduling, and discussion, making participation accessible and flexible for busy faculty. This presentation will provide an overview of the program’s development, demonstrate the Canvas site, and share lessons learned from running the book club. Participants will leave with practical strategies and adaptable ideas for using their institution’s learning management system to support faculty engagement and build collaborative professional learning communities.
