dc.description.abstractTourism is a major industry, not only in the United States of America. Visitors from all over the world visit cultural heritage sites, national parks, entertainment venues, and other points of interest. Mobile devices and applications help with finding landmarks, routing, information retrieval and communication via social media. Thus, location-based services are often the key to providing useful and usable tourism information to many travelers. Washington DC is one of the prime tourist destinations in the U.S. with several historic landmarks. Thus, this thesis investigates how Augmented Reality can enhance the experience of visiting historic landmarks, i.e. the U.S. Capitol building. Several historic models of the U.S. Capitol were developed and embedded in an Augmented Reality App for Android.
