Abstract
This thesis is a collection of six short stories. It is the beginning of ideas that I have been thinking about for some time and hope to continue exploring. The stories portray the lives of Ghanaians and Ghanaian Americans. They present everyday characters who grapple with tradition, religion, spirituality, the various challenges of their lives and decisions. Common thematic issues are family, secrets and internal and external struggles of individuals and the family unit. The setting of these stories range from the colonial era through postcolonial times. While each story stands alone, some characters from separate stories are connected via familial ties, thus providing insight to characters’ developments and motivations.
