Be Quiet and Listen
Abstract
Familial disputes or bicultural identities as a point of conflict for its characters will be a unifying theme of this collection of short stories, flash fiction, micro fiction and vignettes. Many of the stories can be described as happening in the moments where the characters stay silent in the face of familial conflict; they are happening in the moment where the reasons the characters speak up are unclear or unexpected. These are moments where how much the characters are willing to endure for the sake of keeping the peace are tested; these are the moments before something breaks and forces them to act, or at least see the situation differently. Many of the stories butt up against the moment just before the proverbial storm.
