Abstract

The thesis acknowledges that violent, physical conflicts between the Chinese and indigenous Indonesians have significantly declined over the past years. It identifies the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis followed by the fall of the Soeharto regime as turning points in the relationships between the Chinese and indigenous Indonesians and between Indonesia and China.
