Abstract

The Most Frequent Reasons for a Community's Not Being Selected an All-American Cities Finalist, presented by the Citizens Forum on Self-Government/National Municipal League, Inc., 1986. Nominated cities should remember that entries are read critically and carefully by a staff of six people and a five-member Screening Committee. The following are factors used to evaluate cities: use of community resources; innovative techniques used in problem solving; relevancy of the projects to the community's basic problems; and representativeness among its citizens. Inadequate or incomplete responses resulted in low favorability and not enough change year to year also resulted in low marks. The information provided here was designed to act as a general guide in helping understand why certain communities are not selected. Planned Community Archives Collection, 442.03.
