It will not be available until May 2025 at the earliest.This thesis explores the author’s childhood in the Midwest and how an environment shapes a person’s life, personality, and choices. A combination of researched and personal narratives on various experiences and historical moments offer an in-depth look into how a misunderstood culture and long-forgotten history have created a fear of anonymity. Research into Midwestern landmarks and nature, along with personal accounts of the author’s relationships and small-town culture reveal underlying layers of aggression, grief, violence, and intensity originating from a desire to be seen and understood. However, as the author learns more about the Midwest and its history, a newfound understanding—of her home and herself—emerges from a mutual desire to be acknowledged.
