It brings to light the contribution of American cabinetmakers to the creation of these objects. English versus American made knife boxes, their construction and design inspiration; the current debates surrounding knife boxes in scholarly works, and individual examples of American knife boxes are all discussed in this thesis. It encourages the study of this neglected area of study and promotes research into other areas of neglected decorative arts scholarship.enKnife boxCabinetmakerAmericanConstruction / designKnife Boxes and Their American CabinetmakersThesis
